After refusing to pay for taxi ride, one assaults police officer
Three Hopkins students were arrested for theft of services after not paying for a taxi ride, and one could face additional charges of assaulting a police officer.

City rules Pontolillo will not be charged

The State's Attorney Office announced last Thursday that it will not be pressing charges against Hopkins senior John Pontolillo for his use of a samurai sword to fatally wound an intruder on his property.

For Amanda Holder, black is more than just a box she checks to describe her ethnicity. "We want to educate people that 'black' is a culture, one that is developed from a mix of several other cultures. 'Black' is a history filled with struggle, accomplishment, revolution and hope for the future," Holder said.

As 2009 drew to a close, plans were drawn up to renew the area between Howard and 25th Street in Baltimore. Currently home to the Anderson Automative dealership, the area has long been in need of a renovation. After the restructuring of General Motors led to the shuttering of the dealership, community leaders saw an opportunity to create new jobs and businesses in the area.

Kristof talks human rights at FAS speech

When The New York Times journalist Nicholas Kristof first travelled to Egypt, one of the first conversations he had resulted in his accidentally cursing out a local. "But that is the aim of travels," Kristof said. "To be utterly confused and bewildered." Kristof is full of stories of adventures, dangers and humor in exotic lands, but his main reason for speaking at FAS this Tuesday was to advocate for women's rights in some of the impoverished nations he has travelled through during his extensive journalism career.
