The Johns Hopkins News-Letter is currently seeking a business staff for the 2008-2009 school year. The Johns Hopkins News-Letter, published since 1896, is the independent student newspaper of the Johns Hopkins University. The positions allow students to gain real experience in business and marketing. News-Letter business staff positions will give you the experience managing an independent business and dealing with real clients. Positions look excellent on resumes. All positions are paid. The following positions are available:

MARKETING MANAGER
  • In charge of maintaining contact with advertisers - including student groups, university departments, local and national businesses - while preparing advertisements for publication in the News-Letter.
  • Directs and manages a team of up to 5 marketing representatives in soliciting ads and promoting the News-Letter to potential advertisers.
  • Organizes records of advertisement and sales, and keeps a database of all clientèle.
  • Must be extremely responsible, organized, dedicated and have initiative; prior experience in marketing/advertising is required.
  • Salaried position.
MARKETING ASSOCIATES
  • Solicit advertisements from local and national businesses.
  • Work with Marketing Director to ensure good communication with all advertisers.
  • Aid Marketing Director in market research and market strategy implementation.
  • Prior marketing experience preferred, but not required.
  • Receive 10 percent commission on all advertisements sold.
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATOR
  • Supports the Business and Marketing Managers in all facets of business, including checking quality of advertising artwork and placing ads, answering phones, and facilitating communication between managers.
  • Must be responsible, organized, and detail oriented.
  • Salaried position.
BUSINESS MANAGER
  • Manages the News-Letter's accounts and responsible for collection of revenue.
  • Prior experience in accounting required.
  • Salaried position.
